The Drip House, the town’s new coffee shop at 45 Main Street, will host the town’s inaugural open mic night this Saturday at 8 p.m. Owner Leah Burkiewicz says all are welcome: musicians, poets, people who have “a prepared statement about the internet they’d like to deliver to a sympathetic audience.” No cover. Drinks available. Burkiewicz asks: “Please practice your songs first. Just a little. As a courtesy.”
The Civic Center will kick off its “Saturday at the Pictures” series this Saturday with a screening of “You’ve Got Mail” (1998), which Entertainment Director Nora Pavalko — daughter of sports columnist Don Pavalko, who has strong opinions about this choice — calls “the obvious opening selection for this particular town’s particular situation, and if you disagree you’re missing the point.” Tickets $4. Popcorn $2. Children under 5 free.
The Dial-Ups, a four-piece band whose founding members include two factory workers and a town council intern, will perform Friday night at The Foundry Bar & Grill (not to be confused with the football team, though the name overlap was acknowledged as “possibly confusing but definitely intentional”). Their sound, they say, is “early-internet-era alt-rock filtered through Great Lakes weather.” Showtime 9 p.m. $5 cover. No MIDI. The name is ironic.
